So this is the website for a company which wants to use the internet to bring alpaca auctions out of the dark ages, using web design principles straight from the dark ages of the internet.   The site has everything you could hope for in a vintage page, coming soon pages, broken links, formatting that varies page to page, and always, the bright blue/purple pixilated dissolve.  What is more, even though the site says it was last updated in 2008, I can guarantee you that it is constantly maintained to this day, they just forgot to update the “last updated” line of text.

Willkommen to the Steinkeller! That means beer cellar. Graham likes to go here and drink beers and eat sausages and look at the Bavarian beauties.
Das Bier ist gut, aber die Web-Seite ist schlecht!

Would you hire the Charmaine Public Relations Firm as your PR rep? With this website? Maybe, if you’re Jodie Sweetin or Bobby Trendy.
Thanks Gawker!

The website for Lori Anderson Designs is actually kind of pretty, in its own candy-coated kind of way. Can we really harsh on someone who make this?
Thanks to Ralff and Xanar for passing this one along!

What is it with tech sites looking like they’re from the wrong decade? Steve J. writes in:

I nominate www.directron.com. This is a computer and eletronics retailer with a huge catalog.  I know they must have something I need, but I’ve never bought anything from them and never will.  Why not? Because it’s too frakin’ heard to find anything.  It’s like going into one of those antique stores where there is so much stuff, all packed so close together, that you know they might have something you want but you also know you’re never going to find it.Has no one from Directron ever surfed NewEgg, or TigerDirect?  They must know there are cleaner web sites out there.

Dave S. from gdgt tipped us off to a site called Geographics (the name is clever, you’ll get it soon):

I recently ordered a geeky shirt from this website (which kind of sketched me out, since it looks so out of date). Fortunately, it actually arrived. But the copious use of tables, tiled backgrounds, and scrolling text totally qualifies this as a vintage web submission. Looking at the source code, the website even gets some modern day street cred by using Google Analytics.

Holy crap, they have amazing dinosaur shirts!

I present the Wind and Wheels website.
From the wonderful Flash splash screen and animated gif enter graphic, you know you are in for a wonderful retro treat.
Once you have enjoyed the Flash animation, onto the main site, where you can find a wonderful animated rollover menu, a weather widget, an additional expanding side menu and clever use of Comic Sans.
Despite the website, there are some great photographs of wind powered action on the site, so well worth having a good look round.

We look on this Peanuts Characters site more in fondness than our typical sarcasm, so thanks to Dear S. for sending it our way! She wrote:

So the bf and I were chatting about Snoopy bewbs, one thing led to another and before I knew it I was looking for ASCII art images of snoopy. Lo and behold I found yet another gem of a Geocities site. I clicked the link and time traveled to 1994. Bonus: Autoplay music!

What’s a Snoopy bewb?

The Rescued Web

Brandon has taken it upon himself to try and “rescue” some of the sites we’ve featured. Go take a look at the mockups he’s done!

Truly, what a saint.
